User Feedback

I used the fulvic acid with the mycorrhizae. My year old beds look sensational. It looks like I'll have a great crop of berries.

1. What Is Brassinolide?

Brassinolide is a naturally occuring plant steroid; it is normally found in plants 1. In fact, it was first discovered in plants. Brassinolide has been found to be an important element for plant growth 2.

2. When Was Brassinolide Discovered?

In 1968 it was reported that a plant extract improved plant growth.1

3. Why Is Brassinolide Only Available In Such Low Concentration?

Many products are available as 90% pure while we sell Brassinolide in less than 1% pure. The problem is that it is very expensive to make Brassinolide more than 1% pure and is not economical for most use.

4. How Does Brassinolide Help Plant Growth?

Brassinolide is essential for plant growth; plants that cannot generate their own brassinolide will become dwarf plants (1). In fact, it has been suggested (2) that the more brassinolide is available to the plant the more it will grow.

5. Does Brassinolide Help Plant Use Photosynthesis?

Yes. Reasearch has indicated that brassinolide helps plant growth by helping it locate light (1) that is essential for plant life.

6. Does Brassinolide Help Plants Resists Cold, Drought And Salinity?

Brassinolide strengthens a plant's immunity to stresses such as drought, salinity and cold (1)(2).Brassinolide can ensure a plant's steady growth and a longer growing season. Through all these factors brassinolide can ensure bigger and better quality plants.

7. Does Brassinolide Help Plants Resist Disease?

Yes, brassinolide will improve a plant's ability to deal with diseases (1).

8. Can Brassinolide Help Plants Deal With Flooding?

One source 1 reports that a foliar spray of 0.3 ppm of brassinolide helps plants deal with water flooding.

9. What Effect Does Brassinolide Have On Root Development?

A study 1 concluded that Brassinolide increased the growth of the primary root by 90%. Another study 2 concluded that a 0.0001 PPM application for 8 hours has the best results for the creation of some roots.

In my own tests I have worked with different concentations and this is what I've found. First, different types of plants respond differently to brassinolide, so it's always best to start with a low concentrion. As of October 21, 2008 I would recommend starting with 0.01 PPM. I also tested it by keeping the cuttings in the same solution until it was time to put it in soil. I will be running more tests to see what happens if I put the cuttings in the brassinolide solution for only a few hours. I haven't tested yet what happens when the brassinolide is combined with other substances.

Other hormones that boost root growth are the different auxins. Of great interest for roots are Mycorrhizae fungi which increase the reach and assimilation capabilities of the roots. Fulvic Acid is also important for healthy roots.

10. Does Brassinolide Affect Seed Germination?

One study 1 concluded that Brassinolide improved the growth of the germinating seed. Another study 2 has also concluded that Brassinolide has germination promoting effects.

11. What Concentrations Of Brassinolide Are Used?

Concentrations of brassinolide are based on many different factors, such that hard rules are hard to define. In one research brassinolide concentrations of 0.01 ppm to 0.5 ppm1 have shown very good results 2, 3 across a wide range of plants. One patent claims a PPM range of 0.001-0.05 ppm4. At the same time one user found that 0.1 PPM was too strong for his jalapino peppers (only 2 plants tested) so perhaps 0.05 PPM or less is a better 'safe' dosage to start with. Finally, one person 5 reported very good results using 0.01 PPM at three different times on medical marijuana plants.

Keep in mind that you can, to be safe, use a low dosage and then spray again after a few weeks. I would wait at least three weeks.

12. When Should Brassinolide Be Applied?

It will vary from one plant to another, but one source 1 recommends two different foliar sprays of brassinolide. The first at 25 to 30 DAS (days after seeding) and the second after 45 to 50 days. Alternatively, the same source suggests that for some plants the brassinolide should be sprayed at the beginning of flowering. Another source 2 reports very good results when 0.1 PPM brassinolide is sprayed three times: once at the seedling stage, then at the flowering stage and finally at the fruiting stage.

13. How Do I Store Brassinolide Powder?

Brassinolide powder should be stored in a cool dry place.

14. How Do I Store Brassinolide After Mixing It?

Once it's in a liquid form brassinolide would normaly degrade very quickly. The best way to keep liquid brassinolide is to freeze it in a freezer tray. When you need to use the brassinolide just remove one ice cube from the freezer and let it melt.

15. How Long Is Brassinolide Powder Good For?

It is estimated that the brassinolide powder can be kept for up to three years.
