Product OrderingDissolvingDissolving means taking the powder and turning into a liquid. Since IAA won't dissolve in water you use a small amount of alcohol. The amount of alcohol is small; in the example below using there will be less than 5 ml of alcohol in one liter of water, which is insignificant. WaterIAA is not soluble (dissolve) in water; but once is it dissolved it will be diluted (added to water) before used on plants. AlcoholIAA is soluble in alcohol that is 70% pure or more, including common rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol). The powder will not completely dissolve right away; give it 30 minutes to an hour and shake it occasionally. Example3 flat scoops (a flat scoop means filled up to the top but not above) dissolved in one teaspoon of alcohol. After being dissolved it was poured into 1 liter of water to make a solution of about 125 PPM. Always pour the liquid IAA into the water; do not add the water to the liquid IAA. To calculate how much powder you need for your application use the 'PPM Calculator'. DiluteAfter dissolving the IAA (turned into liquid) then it can be mixed with water. As a general rule pour the dissolved IAA liquid into water; do not add water to the IAA/alcohol solution.
1. What Are The Effects OF Indole Acetic Acid (IAA)? 1. What Are The Effects OF Indole Acetic Acid (IAA)?One site 1 has summarized that Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) causes cell growth, division and elongation. When applied at low strength it stimulates root growth and at higher concentration it causes shoot growth. Please remember that low and high concentrations are different for different plants.

2. What PPM Is Recommended For Rooting Cuttings? One reference 1 recommends the use of 100 PPM indole acetic acid (IAA) to improve rooting and sprouting of bamboo. Another study 2 on Camellia luteoflora found that a 1.5 hour treatment of 300 PPM improved success. The study did not indicate what other PPM were tested so it may be a good idea to also try different PPM levels. Another study on Capparis ovata 3 found that IAA at 500 PPM for 12 hours gave similar results as 500 PPM NAA for 12 hours.

3. What PPM Is Suggested For Improving Plant Growth? One study 1 on mung beans found that 600 PPM significantly increased plant growth. The study also found that some varieties had better responses than others. Another study 2 on summer squash reported that Indole Acetic Acid at 200 PPM increased the total yield.

4. How Can Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) Change The Gender Of A Plant's Flowers? One website 1 claims that high doses of IAA applied to marijuana plants will generate female flowers. Unfortunately, the site doesn't indicate what would be the PPM. If you are interested in manipulating the flower gender also take a look at Gibberellic Acid.

5. What Is The Role Of Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) In Apical Dominance? In growing plants Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IAA) is produced in the tip of the main stem. As Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IAA) is produced it promotes the growth of the top of the plant. When the tip is removed by pruning the side branches will grow faster.

6. What Information Is There For The Influence Of Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) On Seed Germination?A test 1 on A. glauca with 300 PPM Indole Acetic Acid improved germination rates. The results of another study 2 also concluded that Indole Acetic Acid was involved in the germination process. Since there is likely to be a wide variation from one plant type to another it is likely to be prudent to first try a lower level of IAA in the beginning such as 75 PPM.

7. Which Bacteria Naturally Generates Indole Acetic Acid (IAA)?Research 1 has shown that azospirilla produces from 2.0 PPPM to 10.5 PPM of a substance similar to IAA.

8. How do I dissolve Indole Acetic Acid (IAA)?IAA dissolves very poorly in water. One website 1 recommends dissolving IAA in 95% ethanol. We have been quite happy dissolving IAA in 99% methyl hydrate.

9. How Long Can The IAA Liquid Solution Be Kept? One internet article 1 claims that a 100 PPM solution made with distilled water can be stored for up to 1 month in a dark refrigerator.
